My Lord, you had mercy on me,
From my sins you set me free.
The old man is now dead;
No more will he be my head.
I am no longer the old man,
My life is yours to command.
My iniquities you wash away,
The old man drowned that day.
In sin my mother birthed me;
I grew in sins I could not see.
That which I thought was right;
Was in truth, as dark as night.
You gave your law for my correction,
And to showed me my transgression.
Great and mighty the work of your hand,
You opened the eyes of this sinful man.
O Lord, renew a right spirit within me;
Let my heart overflow in praise to thee.
Create a heart that beats pure and true;
May it always be filled with love for you.
Restore in me the joy of my salvation;
Let my voice proclaim it to all nations.
May all people give ear to your word,
And see the truth in what they’ve heard.
