I was in a place dark and dire,
Stuck in the muck and mire;
Then the Lord heard my plea,
And came down and rescued me.
When He lifted me from that slimy pit,
His mercy He showed for my benefit.
He gave His word, a rock for my feet;
That I may stand in His love so sweet.
A song in my mouth, a hymn of praise,
This will I sing for the rest of my days.
How blessed am I now freed from my sin,
And for the rest of my life I’ll trust in Him.
In my life many wonders He has done;
Greater still the victories He has won.
If all His blessings I tried to declare,
I would fail; there’s too many to share.
Sin offerings from me you do not require,
It is the sacrifice of my heart you desire.
Upon my heart you have placed your will;
And it is my desire that it I may fulfill.
Let my lips move and my words flow,
So that your love everyone may know.
Before my bothers and sister let me speak,
So they may find the forgiveness they seek.
When troubles come and this life get hard,
May your love and faithfulness stand guard.
Lord when those storms come, may I be found
Clinging to your promises on solid ground.
