Trusting Daily

(1 Kings 17:12-16) My Thoughts

“As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”
Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”
She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the word of the Lord spoken by Elijah.

In our prayers we ask God for our “Daily Bread”. And God has promised to provide for our needs.
God gave the Widow in our story “trust”. She trusted Elijah when he told her to make him some bread and her supply would not run out.
You need to fully understand, here is a woman and her child on the verge of starvation. She only had but a measure of flour and oil to make some bread. And hear was a stranger asking for part of what little she had. Not asking for leftovers mind you but the first service before the widow and her son would eat.
But she believed what Elijah said and trusted that God would provide for her needs. She stepped out on faith and did as she was asked and God blessed her.
In our world today we are so concerned about ourselves that our first question is, what about me? Then we wonder, “What about tomorrow?” and we get caught up in “how” God is going to provide for us that we stress ourselves out.
Are we not using our faith? Do we not believe God’s promises? Do we not trust that He will provide for our “daily” needs?  How can God grant us the blessings He wants to give if we will not trust and believe?

The Lord our God has never failed to provide. He has done all He has said and more. Yet we doubt that He can or will provide for tomorrow. God told us not to worry about tomorrow because He will be there. We want to “see it first”, but we have seen miracles and yet we doubt.  I wonder to myself sometimes, how I can grow my faith if I don’t exercise it? God gave us faith that we may use it to believe and receive.
