Yes and No

Today’s Thought - 30 January

I maybe stepping on my own toes here a little. But it is something I have been working on.
I’ve always prided myself on being on time, usually early.
And I try to let my yes be yes and my no be no, when someone asks a favor of me.  If I can not do what they are asking, I let them know up front that I will not be able to do it. But if I do agree to do what they are asking, I do everything in my power to get it done for them on or before the time they asked for it.
It is so frustrating to have someone say they will do something and then not do it.  It is like they are saying that you do not matter to them. And they do not care about your feelings.
Does how we treat others reflect of how we respond to God? When God puts something on our hearts are we quick to comply or do we just do it when we get around to doing it?  There will always be something “more important” come up, when you do not hold to your word.
I learned at a very early age that our time here is short. And if we don’t do what we have promised to do when we say we will, it may become too late. With every promise broken we hurt someone. And when we hurt another we deny Christ for we are known by the love we show.
I can only wonder why some make promises they aren’t willing or able to keep. And they wonder why their friends grow fewer and fewer. They say to themselves why do they turn away when I come near? They think “they only want to be friends when they want something”.  But how many broken promises have paved the way to this point?
Be quick to listen and slow to speak; and when you do speak let your yes mean yes and your no mean no. When you are struggling with friends turning away, check in the mirror it may be your actions that has caused it.
We all sometimes have trouble meeting deadlines, life happens.  But we should strive to make them and when we can’t then let that person know. Don’t keep them waiting with no hope for completion.
