I am But a Stone

My prayer comes before you Lord;

Hear my cry, my mournful plea.

I am in dire need I’m sinking fast,

Please do not turn away from me.

I come seeking your love and mercy;

Come quickly Lord, rescue me.

These days I have are like the smoke;

They rise and vanish on the wind.

My very bones burn like glowing embers;

Soon I will raise no more, my days will end.

My heart is dry and withered like the grass;

This pain so great I forget to eat.

In my great distress I groan aloud;

I pray my Lord let me not go down in defeat.

But you Lord, have heard my prayers;

You have come to be by my side.

You have come quickly to my rescue;

Your love and compassion you did not hide.

I am but a stone, one of your servants;

But all can see you have come for me.

All the nations will fear the name of the Lord,

For they can see the love He has shown me.

The Lord will respond to the cries of the destitute;

All the kings of earth will revere His glory.

The voices of all His creation will join together,

And in glorious praise, proclaim His story.

And I, yes I, by His grace shall rise to greet Him;

I will shake free the dust and ash that once was me.

My broken body then healed the pain is no more,

I will sing anew His songs of praise that bless me.
