Listen

My son, listen close to a fathers’ words;
Pay attention that you may understand.
I give you wisdom to carry you onwards,
Remember my words as you become a man.

These words were spoken by my father,
While I was young his ways he taught me.
I heard as I was held in the arms of my mother,
His seed was planted before my eyes could see.

He said, “Treasure these words I give,
Keep them in your heart and never part.”
Keep the commands and long will you live,
Blessed be your days with peace in your heart.

Do not reject wise words or turn away,
But seek wisdom and understanding.
Wisdom comes from God to light your way;
This reveals you His loving blessing.

Search His treasured word, dig deep;
Whatever may be the cost, understand.
Live it, for it protects you as you sleep;
Love it, for it guides you to be a man.

Listen, my son, receive what I say,
I teach you in the ways of wisdom.
I speak to you of the Lord’s way,
So you may come to see His kingdom.
